Assignment 3
It's big, or maybe it's small (but on something other than "normal" paper), or maybe it's on the web or maybe it's...

The idea:

The constant of the first two assignments was the output- ink on paper. Well, the beauty of the computer is you can output to almost anything at any size you can imagine. Large prints are available at the school service bureau as well as many other sources. A variety of "specialty" papers (often called "novelty" papers) are available from a number of manufacturers. Some other types of paper can also be run through inkjet printers - use your imagination. You can also output right to the web, or video or who knows. In this third assignment we will cover some of those other forms of output.

I strongly urge you to use this opportunity to make a web site. It may seem like the most work, but in the end it's really the least and is the cheapest. To get a free website, ftp software and some directions on how to set up your site and upload your files (I will explain these steps on the 28th) use this link. You can also host your site on the school server. If you do not have an account, follow this information and use the related links below:

  1. Go to one of the general access labs (2nd floor Sharp, 11th floor Sharp, two in the 9th floor Michigan - it may work in these photo department labs, but I'm not sure)
  2. Open up a web browser
  3. Type in "getconnected" in the location bar
  4. Have your student ID number, name, and birthrate ready and the site will walk you through it
  5. If this does not work for you, ask the lab monitor or call the help desk at 312-899-1234

Try to knock around a bit with this before class on the 28th. We will be going over it a bit then.
